Organisational Chart of the Mullumbimby 3-DAY ART PROJECT
Key Features of the Mullumbimby 3 Day Art Exhibitions Project
- Monthly Event: the weekend of each calendar month. The initial stage of the project involves monthly exhibitions on the first weekend of each calendar month. You can find the dates here.
- Exhibition Duration: Each exhibition will run for just three days, creating a sense of urgency and excitement around the event. The format focuses on maximizing impact, with a peak attendance during the opening event followed by two days of public viewing. This model avoids the overhead costs of extended rentals while maintaining high public engagement.
- Curatorial Program: The project is developing a curatorial program that will guide the thematic focus of each exhibition, helping to ensure a rich, engaging experience for both artists and visitors. In addition, a marketing strategy is being implemented to draw attention and build anticipation around each event.
- Visitor Engagement: a program over the two days following the opening could include demonstrations, artist talks and workshops.
Community and Stakeholder Support
- The Mullum Civic Hall has been an enthusiastic partner, contributing to the project by covering half the cost of new plinths and upgrading the hanging system. The Hall’s management has also generously offered a 25% discount on rental fees for the six exhibition dates.
- North Coast Ceramics Inc. has also played a vital role in supporting the project by funding 50% of the plinth production costs.
- Creative Mullum Inc. has contributed substantial in-kind project management and logistical support.
- The Mullum Chamber of Commerce & Community has indicated financial backing, offering support through bar services and catering, further enhancing the community atmosphere of each exhibition.
Why a Pop-up Exhibition?
The pop-up format emphasises the idea of ephemeral art experiences. Rather than running exhibitions over long periods, the goal is to create highly focused, compact shows that offer visitors an immediate and intense experience. By focusing on a short timeframe, the project also maximises the potential for engagement and attendance while minimising financial risk. Each exhibition is designed to be potent and memorable, sparking interest and excitement locally.
Future Goals and Impact
This project aims to contribute to the cultural fabric of Mullumbimby by providing artists with an accessible and professional platform to showcase their work. It also aims to foster greater collaboration between local creative organizations, promote pride in the arts, and enhance community involvement. Over time, the project will add to the identity of Mullumbimby as a cultural destination as it collaborates with other town galleries to promote the art presence. The pop-ups may happen more frequently and occupy the gallery space for more prolonged periods.
