the mullum eye

The dock creaked beneath my boots as dawn painted the lake silver. I cast my line into the stillness, watching ripples dissolve into glass. No phones, no deadlines—just me and the whispering pines.

Hours passed unnoticed. A bass tugged my line, fought briefly, then surrendered. I released it gently, understanding we were both seeking something deeper than capture.

The sun climbed higher, warming my shoulders. Birds called from hidden branches while my thoughts untangled like fishing line. Each breath drew in pine-scented clarity.

As shadows lengthened, I packed my gear. The fish didn’t matter—I’d caught something far more valuable: peace.
